Hi, I’m Maria. I'm an art director, designer, and visual storyteller.
As the Senior Art Director at Candlewick Press, I make books of all sizes for kids of all ages. Book design is storytelling and I like stories that inspire imagination, curiosity, and creativity. I believe that exploration is just as important as execution, so my favorite question to ask myself and those I work with is, What if? I'm drawn to out-of-the-box thinking, hand-lettered typography, and quirky but lovable characters. When I’m not making books, I’m attempting to bake a loaf of sourdough, reading tarot, digging in the garden, or strolling through my Richmond, VA neighborhood with my husband and our rescue pup, Wyla.
